Robusto the Hippo

Robusto the Hippo

With every limited run coffee we've put out into the world. We always include a cool sticker to accompany it. As sick as it would be to put that design on the label... those usually get tossed with the bag.

Besides, stickers are more fun!

Where does the Hippo come from and why Robusto?

The coffee origin that is Africa Game Trail, Burundi Kalico, is one of the countries where Hippos reside.

Pretty simple.
However, the more I researched into Burundi, the whole hunting theme behind it, Teddy Roosevelt, the Smithsonian African Expedition, and the Model 8 rifle... Going with a Hippo was the obvious choice.

Robusto just sounds like a natural fit for this charming, cute, and deadly Hippo you see above you. His bird friend is the real threat here...

Not only is a nod to the coffee world but Robusto just fits a stout, strong, and dangerous fellow. Remember, the bird is the real dangerous one here.

Okay, enough foolin'.

Robusto coffee is generally the other type of coffee you hear about. We exclusively provide Arabica coffee beans, but we have done one Robusto coffee bean for the coffee club a few years back.

Robusto coffee is known for its caffeine.
Arabica coffee is known for its flavor.

Hippos are native to Burundi, yes.

Although Teddy Roosevelt and his team did not go through Burundi at all... It was noted in Teddy Roosevelt's book, African Game Trail, that he and their team took down 7 Hippos!

Is a lot of this all loosely tied together? Yes.

Is all of this a lot of fun and bringing together a lot of different history together for you to research? Yes.

So, not only can you enjoy this coffee, get a chuckle at the sticker of Robusto the Hippo, but you can also read a little history on any of the things we've covered that make up the backstory on this coffee.
