Have you ever glanced at a picture or video of the Fellow Kettle and been struck by its sheer beauty? It's one of those items that instantly grabs your attention. But then, reality hits when you see the price tag – and let's be honest, it's not exactly pocket change. I've definitely had that moment of sticker shock too. However, fear not, because there's a way to get your hands on one of these coveted kettles without breaking the bank. It just requires a bit of patience, timing, and perhaps a stroke of luck.

Enter the world of online marketplaces. Yes, I'm talking about eBay – or "Evilbay," as some affectionately call it. Scrolling through listings on eBay can sometimes lead to hidden gems, including Fellow Kettles. In fact, both of the Fellow Kettles we've used here at Viking were snagged second-hand from eBay or coffee-specific groups on Facebook.

Now, when you're scouring through listings, keep your eyes peeled for detailed photos. You want to see the inside of the kettle and assess its overall condition. Avoid those with excessive water scale or stains – they'll only add extra work and often without much of a discount compared to cleaner options.

A word of caution: if you're eyeing the newer pro models of Fellow Kettles, tread carefully. There are some convincing knockoffs out there, and I speak from personal experience. Patience is key, especially if you're after a specific color or model with fancy wood accessories like handles.

And don't forget to check whether you're looking at a stovetop version or an electric one. It's an important distinction.

Now, you might be wondering if shelling out anywhere from $80 to $130 for a kettle is justified. As someone who uses one daily, and at every event we attend, let me assure you – it's worth every penny.

One of the things I love most is the convenience. I can switch it on in the morning, go about my routine, and by the time I'm ready, the water is perfectly heated to 206 degrees Fahrenheit, ready to brew. It's a game-changer.

For events, these kettles are absolute lifesavers. Set the water temperature, and it stays there until you're ready to use it. Plus, they heat up water surprisingly fast – a godsend for commercial use.

Even for home use, they're invaluable for dialing in the perfect water temperature for different coffee roasts. Trust me, once you have one, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Definitely worth it and adds a feeling of professionalism to your coffee.
